“Snow on the rooftops”

… were the first words I read when i woke up this morning. It was the subject line of an email sent to me from my friend I planned to do my long ride with today. My first thought? “so what? we don’t ride on the roofs!”

A slightly deranged thought to have, i realize… but at the time it seemed like the end of the world (in terms of my training plan, of course). Regardless, I decided to use the time to my advantage and make myself a nice breakfast and enjoy an (unusual) leisurely Sunday morning… and by “enjoy” i really mean “anxiously awaited the weather to make a miraculous switch”.

no . such . luck .

Ended up hittin the trainer, less than enthused. I never really feel like i get much out of my workouts on the trainer. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely sweat like crazy, but I just don’t feel like I gain much from it. The bike is most certainly my weakest of the three disciplines, so I need all the practice/preparation I can get.

I started out with 40 minutes low intensity. booooring. I bumped it up a bit and did 20 minutes in a higher gear, bringing the heart rate up. The added complexity helped keep my focus and pass the time. I did a short 5 minute recovery before another 15:00 bump in intensity. Then a 10 minute cool down and my 90 minute ride was over. It wasn’t any 3 hour outdoor ride, but I guess in some small way it was better than nothing.

Feeling less than accomplished for today, I’m gonna go be extra lazy and enjoy a movie with a girlfriend. Afterall, there is snow on the rooftops!
