Gone Off-Track.

After putting in hours and hours and thousands of miles of “one foot in front of the other”… i’ve let it all go.

My best friend from childhood came out to visit me for my birthday and while we had the time of our lives, the only training that was done was that of exercising my liver (and stomach). I got in a short run here and there, but that’s about it. I’ve gone completely off-track.

Ordinarily I take my training so seriously that I forget to have fun. I have yet to find that balance in my life– it’s truly one extreme or the other. I’m either 110% or 0%. Too bad my downfall had to be the week of my first race of 2009.

Cherry Blossom 10-miler,
I’m not going to be able to give you what you deserve. I respect you and hate to inform you that you’re not gonna get my all. I’m going to have to just use you as a training run. Please forgive me, I’ll try to reign strong next year.

With only 2 days til race day there’s really not much I can do. I tried to go out this morning and get in a 45 minute run with some sprints throughout… but clearly this just isn’t meant to be. After pressing snooze a half-dozen times, i finally got myself out of bed and into my running gear. I stepped outside and was greeted by a gray, misty Friday morning. No problems there, i love running in the (light) rain… Fast forward 10 minutes and there I am drenched to the bone, shivering, wearing my prescription sunglasses, with one goal in mind– make it home w/o running into a car… got in about 15:00 total. so completely the opposite of awesome.

totally dreading this race…
