Today marks the first day of my two week race taper… While I still have some high-intensity workouts in the mix, my weekly training volume is gonna be substantially lower than recent weeks. It’s gonna be strange having extra time on my hands, but I’m kinda looking forward to it, too :)
I usually get myself all worked up over my time trials, but I was so preoccupied with work and other things that I completely forgot. It wasn’t until 5:15 when I went to go write out my workout that I realized what the workout entailed. I walked the 2 blocks to the pool, ate a shot blok (despite the fact i got acid reflux last time after doing the same thing), got suited up and jumped in.
Legs are a little tight from the weekend, so I started out nice and easy with a relaxed warmup. Nice and long strokes, minimal effort. I really tried to focus on my drills tonight and not just go through the motions but actually emphasize the use behind them. I did a few pick-ups to get up to speed before starting the clock.
1000 Time Trial
14:30 (HR max 177, HR avg 155)
Breaks down to: 7:15/500yd; 1:25/100yd; 43.5/50yd
I finally had a decent TT in the pool! I felt good and smooth in the water, but I know i could have/should have gone harder at the beginning. I was definitely pacing myself to be faster towards the end. I was able to do my last 100 as a solid build with my last 25 pretty much all-out. My first 500 felt great, but it really should have been faster. i just hope i can get myself to swim like this on race day. Somehow i am never able to bring my A-game when it counts. I’ve really got to get better at pacing myself correctly and not being overly conservative.
Happy Monday.
